SD-WAN and some magic sauce

I have previously written about SDWAN here and being on the coalface. SDWAN is basically a fancy pants VPN with some orchestration. It's main value proposition is to use multiple broadband links to more cost effectively replace MPLS. But delivering just the basic SDWAN product would be like serving bland pasta with no decent sauce. What is that magic sauce?
