Paper shredders - the legacy of Arthur Anderson - the Awesome World of Things

The initial type of paper shredder related invention is credited to Abbot Augustus Low of New York, who filed a patent for a more sophisticated waste paper receptacle . Low's invention was intended for use in banks but it was never manufactured.
