Many network engineers out there use skype and whatsapp in an informal manner. Neither, the NOC or the CTO of any network operator, service provider or carrier has any formalized policy around the use of these tools. It is something that has started organically and become a habit. It has great benefits but it is also a problem as because it is not formalized it can be a curse.
